Halloween is always a favorite time to let you creativity shine! Our little "Boo Dress" was so popular in my Etsy shop, we thought it would be fun to share this cute design!
First of all, we started with our newly released "Hop Skip Jumper" PDF pattern for the dress! I used a black and white striped fabric for the original dress and a pin dot fabric for the bodice and ruffle. The tulle at the top of the skirt comes on a roll and very easy to add.
You'll also need the "Boo Applique" which can be found on our website for only $1.00!
You can purchase Chenille fabric for the Ghost but since I didn't have the fabric on hand, I used another product called "Chenille-It Blooming Bias" and was very pleased with the results! I basically printed out my "ghost", traced it on fabric and sewed on the blooming bias!
I stitched the bias onto fabric going just a little beyond the traced lines and then used my pattern piece to cut it out all nice and neat!
Since the bias needs to expand a little to get that plush, soft look and feel, the manufacturer directs us to wash it! I used a different method involving a hair dryer and a brush which is explained on the packaging as well! I used a temporary spray adhesive to secure my ghost to the fabric and then just used a machine straight stitch close to the outsize edges. The stitches disappear into the Chenille.
For the letters, pumpkin and ghost eyes, I used fusible adhesive sheets and a satin stitch (a very tight zigzag stitch) to outline each piece. I find that using a stabilizer really helps with applique, so it's a staple in my sewing room!
The "BOO" Applique also looks great on our Peasant Dress PDF Sewing Pattern for Girls sizes 6 months to 8 years.
Pretty easy and fun to do! Happy Halloween!!
